HAMMING HAMLET

“Hamming Hamlet” (Recitando male L’Amleto) is a light-hearted look at Hamlet from the point of view of the caretaker (bidello) who is working backstage at the time of the performance of Hamlet in a theatre. The play is both informative and fun, as it provides interesting facts about ‘Hamlet’ and Shakespeare’s theatre in general as well as making fun of elements of the play and of Shakespearean storylines, actors and speeches. The play is specifically directed at a non-native speaker audience which adds an educational aspect to the performance.

Michael Wright is a teacher and professional actor who has worked in theatre for many years. He has worked in educational theatre in England and Italy and has performed in street theatre as far away as Sri Lanka. His experience ranges from acting in Shakespearian plays to one-man shows performed with makeshift props and equipment, including “Sounds in Space”, “Clowns” and “Family Affairs” which were also written and directed by him specifically for non-native speakers.
